COMMON NAME: Northern Elephant Seal, Elephant seal.

SCIENTIFIC NAME: Mirounga angustirostris

DESCRIPTION: Large size (up to 11ft long). Mature males with enlarged fleshy proboscus. Females and juveniles considerably smaller with pale unmarked pelts.

RANGE: Alaska to Baja. The largest breeding and haul out sites are in the Channel Islands off the coast of California.
