The Ribbon Prickleback (Phytichthys chirus) is a common inhabitant of the intertidal zone. Its coloration is highly variable depending on its habitat. Tell tale markings include a row of widely spaced small white dots on the lateral line close to the tail, eyelash like black lines below the eye (not always visible) and a dark horizontal line through the eye which is reddish above and lighter below.
