The Smoothhead Sculpin (Artedius
lateralis) is easily mistaken for the scalyhead sculpin Artedius
harringtoni. It can be distinguished by its more sloped head and longer
snout and by the lack of antlers. It also has a band of scales running down
each flank above the lateral line but in the smoothhead sculpin the 'tire
track' of scales is not present forward of the first dorsal. These smoothhead sculpin pictures
